Willamette Corridor Association
EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Much has been written about the real possibility of a catastrophic 9.0 earthquake in the Cascadia Subduction Zone. So, in addition to our regular activities of promoting business and recreation within the corridor, disaster preparedness focusing on the Willamette River as a life line is one of the core initiatives which must be developed in an emergency so that communities can remain connected and families reunited if stranded on the other side of the Willamette River from their home.
The WCA is organizing the First Responder Shuttle Team (F.R.S.T)
F.R.S.T. is network of boat operators who have volunteered to transport First Responders including firefighters, medical personnel and emergency supplies when called upon by the U.S. Coast Guard.
Trained and equipped, F.R.S.T. volunteer boat operators, upon securing their own families and homes, will report to designated boat ramps and commence transporting within their assigned route. Routes and logistics are prepared with input from disaster preparedness professionals to ensure an organized and efficient system. In this manner First Responders such as doctors will arrive at hospitals quickly and safely in the likely event roads and bridges are impassable.
